My journey into real estate was more than a career shift; it was a transformation, rewriting my story and redefining what success means to me. Now, I can focus my life on what matters most: being a great mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and REALTOR®, supporting the people in my life and community.
It was a day that changed everything, my reality hitting me like a ton of bricks. I came home, exhausted from a long day of work, striving to succeed in a career I once believed was my dream. My son, Charlie, was riding his tricycle when he fell. Instead of running to me, he ran to his nanny. That simple act removed the veil concealing my reality—I was so consumed by work that my son didn’t seek me out for comfort. It was an emotional and painful realization. Something needed to change.
At the time, I was a successful attorney, working hard in a field I had aspired to join since I was 16. But the reality was far from the dream. Long hours, billable minutes ticking away, sacrificing everything for a career that was supposed to define me. I had made it, reached that pedestal of success, but at what cost?
My journey into real estate wasn't a calculated move but a desperate leap towards something resembling balance. I was drowning in the legal environment that was heavy, harsh and unrelenting. Law was a world dominated by men, where being a working mother was almost an afterthought. No one cared that I had kids at home who wanted to see their mom; I had a job to do, and that was that.
The transition to real estate wasn't about financial gain; it was about regaining control of my life. After all the trials I faced to build a successful career in law over the span of 10 years, I knew I had what it took to build a career in real estate too.
Real estate has always been something I was interested in, but I never fully considered it until January 2016. Several people in my family are in real estate. For the longest time, I thought their lives seemed amazing. They were present for family and always present for important events, but they still built successful careers on their own terms. In real estate, I saw the opportunity to help families while also being a present mother and friend.
As you can imagine, those closest to me questioned why I would leave behind such a lucrative career. Many thought it was a waste of my talents, but I saw it as a new opportunity to use my legal knowledge and blend it with my passion for people. I discovered the joy in helping families find their homes—in being a part of their journey.
The road to rebuilding wasn't easy, but every step was worth it. I had to redefine what success looked like to me, something that has driven me through my twenties and early thirties, constantly pushing myself to be better and earn more. I'm learning to give myself a break, to understand that life isn't just about the accolades. Family dinners, shared laughter, and even quiet nights at home all help me feel restored and whole. It's about finding that balance, carving a path where work doesn't eclipse life but complements it.
One of the greatest gifts as a result of this journey is the time I have gained to be with my kids, family, and friends. Whether it is helping the kids with homework when they get home from school or taking them to dance lessons or soccer practice, I am a part of their everyday lives more so now than ever. As a family, we love board games, traveling, and play dates at the park with our neighbors and friends; we enjoy every adventure together!
